Meta and Instagram Ads for Saudi e-commerce

Nobody opens Instagram in order to buy. All of the work here is stopping a thumb that was already moving.

What are you actually buying on Meta?

You are buying exposure to people who resemble your buyer, not to people who asked for your product. Meta is a display platform, not a search one, so it builds demand and reminds people of it.

Its strength is breadth: Facebook, Instagram, Stories and Reels are different surfaces inside one account, and impression prices differ between them enough to be worth measuring.

And it is the deepest platform for remarketing. Someone who visited your store and left a cart can be reached far more cheaply than a stranger.

Ad formats Meta and Instagram sell

Single image or video ad

The core unit in the feed. One clear offer and one button, and usually what new angles are tested with.

Carousel

Sequential cards, each with its own image and link. It shows a range or explains step by step.

Collection ad

A lead image or video above a product grid, opening a browsing experience inside the app rather than sending people away.

Dynamic catalogue ads

Shows each person the product they browsed or left in the cart. The strongest use of your store data.

Click-to-message ads

Opens a WhatsApp or Messenger chat instead of a product page. Right for sales that need a question first.

Reels and Stories ads

Vertical full-screen video inside short-form content. Usually the cheapest impression on the platform, and the one most in need of material that belongs there.

Does it suit your business?

Meta works when the product is visual, or when you already have an audience that has visited you.

Visual retail

Fashion, fragrance, home, gifts. A product bought on sight finds its widest set of surfaces here.

Traffic you are not converting

Remarketing here is the cheapest sale available, because the audience already knows you.

A business that sells over WhatsApp

Click-to-message ads move the buyer straight into a conversation, which is the dominant behaviour in the Saudi market.

A brand building an audience, not one sale

Followers and organic content are an asset that compounds, and Meta builds it alongside selling rather than instead of it.

When Meta is the wrong channel

Four situations where spending here is the weakest thing you can do with the budget.

When measurement is broken

Meta optimises toward what it can see. Without a correct purchase event it learns from a partial signal and buys you an audience that does not buy.

When your audience already searches for you by name

If demand exists in search, paying to introduce yourself to people who already know you is buying what you already have.

When nothing new gets produced

The same audience sees your ad again and again until it stops seeing it. An account without new material watches its results slide month by month.

When the offer itself is weak

The platform amplifies what you have and does not fix it. An offer that fails on the product page will not convince at a bigger budget.

What are the ads actually made of?

Meta consumes creative faster than any other channel, so the plan starts from how many formats, not how many campaigns.

Static design

One image with one clear offer. Fastest to produce and test, and the right shape for a price or a discount.

Carousel

Sequential cards showing a range or explaining step by step. Useful when one frame is not enough.

Catalogue product set

Built from your product feed, so price and stock speak for themselves without a new design per product.

UGC video

A clip with a real voice and a phone camera. It looks like Reels, so it does not read as an ad in the first two seconds.

AI-generated video

Produced with paid generation tools, so several angles get tested in days instead of weeks of shooting.

The video production itself runs at Sharpreel, the independent production arm. The campaign is managed here and the clip is made there.

What actually happens once we agree?

Five steps in an order that does not get reversed.

  1. I read the account and the store

I open the ads manager and the product pages, and write down where budget leaks and what stops the visitor before checkout.

  2. I fix the pixel and the catalogue

Purchase, add-to-cart and server-side events, then the product connection. Measurement first, always.

  3. I separate cold audiences from returning ones

One prospecting campaign and one remarketing campaign, each with its own budget and message. Merging them hides which one paid.

  4. I test angles, not colours

Testing runs on message, format and audience, with a spend ceiling and a decision date set before anything runs.

  5. I refresh creative before it tires

I watch for fatigue and bring in new material before the cost rises, not after.

Questions asked before we start

What is the difference between Facebook ads and Instagram ads?

They are one ad account and different surfaces. Audience and price differ across Facebook, Instagram, Stories and Reels, and reading them merged hides which surface paid and which one delivered.

What budget do I need to start?

The number follows how many formats you intend to test, not a general rule. A budget split across many tests gives none of them enough data. So I set the number of tests first, then the cap.

Do I need video, or is static enough?

Static is enough to start and to test quickly. But Reels and Stories are the cheapest impressions on the platform, and they are video surfaces. Running images alone leaves the cheapest reach to someone else.

How long before I can judge the result?

One to two weeks at an agreed cap tells you whether a format gives a signal. Judging before the campaign leaves its learning phase means switching off what was about to work.

My ads worked and then stopped. Why?

Three causes dominate: creative fatigue after the audience has seen it repeatedly, a measurement change that broke the conversion signal, or a new competitor raising the price of the impression. Diagnosis starts by telling them apart, not by raising the budget.

Send me your store and your ad account

I will open the account and tell you what I see: whether the problem is measurement, creative, or the offer itself. And if your budget works better somewhere else, I will say so.
